Anti Ageing Metformin?

Ive been reading a lot of articles lately suggesting that Metformin may be the new Anti Ageing pill. There is always discussion regarding Metformin but these articles particularly caught my eye as i actually LOL, yes Laughed Out Loud!!

Metformin has been around for a while, since the 1920's. Apparently the 'root' of Metformin is a plant called 'Galega Officinalis' a plant commonly used by medieval europeans to help increase milk production in their livestock. OMG, im sure i didnt read anything on the possible side effects of Metformin warning you that you could turn into a Lactating Goat!!!

An article written by The Telegraph back in 2015 regarding Metformin wrote "Worlds first anti-ageing drug could see humans live to 120". It reported that human trials would start in 2016 and could see results that would have an effect on diseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

Professor Gordon Lithgow of the Buck Institute for Reasearch on Ageing in California said "if you target an ageing process and you slow down ageing then you slow down all the diseases and pathology of ageing aswell".

Is this a good thing? I mean, if you prolong life arent you prolonging any diseases also? Hmm.

Scientists believe Metformin to be the choice of drug in the battle for Anti Ageing. Costing only 10p a day Metformin is the most widely used drug in the world!

In 2014, Cardiff University found that diabetic patients given metformin lived longer than non diabetics. So, could Metformin be prolonging our lives?

The Clinical study is being carried out by scientists in USA called TAME (Targeting Ageing with Metformin). The trial will be carried out on both men and women over the age of 60 and looks to end around December this year. I look forward to the results!

When i initially saw the headlines about Metformin and Anti ageing my first thought was, how is this going to help my face wrinkles?.....Ooops

No, its about prolonging life expectancy.

What do you think? is this just a way for doctors to get us to rely on medication? Refer back to my previous log where i talked about Dr Whittaker believing that some doctors are too quick to prescribe this wonderful drug to a T2 Diabetic when a balanced healthy diet and regular exercise could be more beneficial.

Am i torn between potentially reversing my T2 Diabetes and maybe living to 80 or 90 years of age without Diabetes or living to 120 years of age with this crappy disease?

The answer for me is an easy one........................

Bye for now x
